My serial #

on the bottom of the camera starts off with 393...
I just got this from B&H. Shouldn't this start with a 4? Just checking.

Why.

Got my replacement less than a month ago and it also starts with 39; produced 2011/01/15

PS
Life has been quite expensive for Pentax with all the recalls. I don't think they threw all the 'older' ones away but recycled the parts (or just fixed the sensor).

Seems to me the build date of the camera is more important than the serial number so far as sensor stains are concerned. My guess is that anything produced after 12/15/10 is likely to be OK.

Mine is also a 39XXXX and it is absolutely Perfect! Just use it, if it works, don't worry about the S#! Anyhow, 39 is a very good number....there are millions of women in the world that will tell you in a heartbeat that they prefer 39 0ver 40. Mrs Rupert is almost 65, but would gladly take a 39!
To be honest....this was taken three years ago, when she was only 62......but she would have traded for a 39 then too!

BTW- Although my K5 is Perfect....unfortunately, Mrs Rupert is not. If she sees this thread, I will most likely have to go through that "Retraining Exercise'......again. Ever done those? Damn I hate those! In my 45 years with Mrs Rupert, at least half of them were spent being "Re-Trained".

Born on info can be found on the metadata of your pictures. There is an app called photome and.a couple of websites you can use to look it up.

I am also a 393xxxx serial and my camera is perfect. January build.date.

62 in that pic? Or you are a magician with photoshop, or she looks so much younger... Maybe you have to stop taking squirrel pics, or she will go away with one :P

Just received my third K-5 and finally no stains no problems. Serial Number is 3842339 which is lower than my original K-5 bought last November even though the build date is 17 Feb 2011. Camera is obviously refurbished (or whatever), came with latest FW loaded, is in mint condition and works just fine. All lens AF adjustments are in the low range, as distinct from the 7 -10 both plus and minus I had for the previous two bodies. A quick test of low tungsten light AF showed no FF and off camera flash is OK.

Pentax obviously weren't going to discard all the components of returned bodies and why would they. I'm happy, but just wish it hadn't take nearly six months and $80 shipping/insurance fees to get there. Now it's time for some LBA and a DA 15 looks like being it.

I did as well

Which brings me to the question what must happen with the (stained) one that was swapped? No longer have it.
