K-5 Live view does weird stuff...

I got my K-5 just a few days ago, so I am still familizarizing myself with all the functions.

I have tried the live view and it seems to do weird stuff I can't find anything about in the manual: When I press the shutter, the camera zooms in on the center square that is shown. Maybe an 8X Zoom? It then zooms out again, and takes the picture.

It is supposed to do this? My K-x does not do this (I had never tried it before, but just checked it)

Confused

Yes it is supposed to do that. It is zooming for focus purposes. You can move that square around the screen and pinpoint the focus point. If you don't want it to do that with the shutter button you can turn off AF on the shutter button when using live view and then use the AF button to auto focus.

Man that is fast compared to my K-x!!! Has it really improved that much!

The zoom on LV focus is nice feature I think.

As others said, that is the normal behavior for the K5 live view. I've found it very useful so far. The K5 is smaller than my K20D, and when I have a small prime, I can use the LV very effectively. I was shooting a classic car show last weekend with the DA21, and I was able to shoot inside the cars by sticking my hand in with the camera in LV and take shots one-handed.

Yes it has! LV is now a joy to use with the K-5, vs how the K-x works

I'm pretty sure the liveview in the K-5 puts every true dslr to shame as far as AF speed (not counting micro 4/3 or the sony SLT cameras here). It is probably the closest thing to usable liveview AF on a dslr so far.

I want one bad, just having hard time parting with the cash.
Plus my K7 is only 10 mo. old with little over 14k shots.
Damn that K5 is quick in LV.
