It's barely visible at f/22, can get just less noticeable at larger apertures. I'd say leave it alone for now.

Does anyone know what percentage of K-5's had the sensor stains?

I just bought one. No stains so far, but the camera was built on Dec 10, 2010. Perhaps I should do lots of video shooting to see if any are revealed before the return/exchange period is over?

You just might do about 10 or 15 minutes of video, then check it in about 4-7 days. If none show up then, just forget about it and enjoy your camera. Just check it again a month or so before your warranty runs out, just in case. I wouldn't even be saying to do this much if your camera wasn't built in the suspect time range.

Sure, one does not have to be paranoid about it. Just judge the frequency of the cleaning action by the environment in which the camera is operated in. If it is hot and humid act more promptly. Please understand though, the longer muck is left on the sensor the harder it is to remove. This is not a theoretical observation I make here.

I bequeathed my K10D to my brother-in-law and a few years ago and he has never cleaned the sensor. When finally he came to me to clean it I had a hard time shifting the dirt and was not 100% successful even with a wet clean. There was one stubborn piece of crap left at the lower right hand corner. Took it to a camera shop here in Melbourne and they could not shift it either. They said they could remove it with some brute force but were loath to do so as most likely it would leave a mark. So now he has got to live with it.

hi,

i've noticed these spots on my photos that only appear at f11 and higher; are they dirt or are they stains? i've used the pentax sensor cleaner to try and remove them but they remain.

this photo is at f22 and is a crop

serial number is 3934419

If you cannot remove these dust spots (believe me they are dust) with the PENTAX dust removal tool then they have already bonded to the filter surface. A wet clean is required and to judge by the intensity of their appearance in your picture they will come off with the wet cleaning procedure.

This dust has probably been ignored for too long. Please bear in mind the offending particle could be, among many other things, of a ferrous nature. Now with a bit of humidity and (depending on the volume of the speck measured in microns) the ensuing oxidization that will then take place will make bonding a very rapid process.

In other words, the dust sticks to the sensor (filter) surface more then the sticky lifting force of the PENTAX lolly can provide. (Not to mention a blower)

I just received the replacement for the previous stained body; SN 40446xx, made on 2011-04-11; it looks good so far

, with no dust spots or stains.
