Getting a K5 benefits my granddaughter!

When I invested in a K5, that left me with two other Pentax DSLRs, a K200D and a K100D. I plan on using the K200D as a backup, but wondered what I'd do with that K100D. One of my granddaughters, an 11-year-old who lives in another state, recently visited. She was taking pictures with a digital point and shoot, and was doing some good stuff with it. She has a good eye for composition, and she's incredibly bright for her age.

So I gave her my K100D, and a nice 50mm f/1.7 lens as a starter kit. I've upgraded it with the latest software so it will take SDHC cards. I also gave her the owner's manual and three "how to" books on digital photography. Wow, she practically inhaled the books within a week, and is now doing some really creative stuff with her beginner DSLR. I got my start in digital photography with that camera, and I think it will serve admirably for her.

For K5 owners now finding themselves with surplus but very usable cameras, I suggest you consider passing them on down the family tree; who knows, it could be the start of something grand!

I did a very similar thing when I upgraded from the Kx to the K5.
My daughter has always wanted to get a DSLR, but having a young family doesn't have the money to buy one.
So I gave her practically all my gear. KX, 18-55mm & 50-200mm kit lenses. Sigma 100-300DL zoom and my Rokinon flash which worked fine on the Kx but would not work on the K5. I also gave her my sling back bag to carry it all.

I felt much better doing that than trying to sell it all, and I added another Pentax user to the world.

I gave my daughter my first DSLR, a K110D and the 18-55 and 50-200mm lenses. Sort of fitting to since she was the one who convinced my wife to buy it for me for Christmas several years back.

Pass em on folks!

Exactly Mike and they don't have to be to family either. When I got my K20D I passed on my K10D to my brother in law who eventually passed it on to my nephew, sadly, it doesn't get much use. When I got my K-x I gave my ist DS to a young co-worker and he's taken well over 5000 shots with it in the 6 months he's had it, he's also developed full blown LBA.

NaCl(pass it on, if you don't have a family member a co-worker or neighbor will do)H2O
