I'm planning a 6 day hike in a few months where I won't have access to any power facalities. Other than carrying an extra battery, I was wondering what other way I could minimise power consumption.
I've turned off instant review and turned off the screen using the info button.

Anyone got any other ideas?

I'm guessing some 32GB cards or even a 64GB SDXC card.

Video is very demanding on the battery, but is also delivering a nice memory.

Putting off anything you don't need or can do in post processing. So noise reduction, CA, lenscorrections, shadowcorrection set OFF. Showing the picture after taking one for a few seconds also set off. You can set off the statusscreen. The AF light and the topdisplay light are things to considder.

With one battery filling up a 32GB card with RAW data is no problem.

I was in Spain for 10 days, even without any power saving made 600 pictures. Battery still alive I don't think that you in 6 day hike plan to do 1000 shots. Better make quality shots, not quantity If you use Video on K-5 then it's another story.
