frames per second

Sorry if this has been posted before.

I noticed on the weekend that when I try to shot continously as in 7 frames per second, I noticed that the K5 stopped at aorund 3 frames then paused then took another 3 seconds.

When I first got the camera, it went nuts with the number of frames which I was impressed and got some amazing photos.

Your thoughts are appreciated.

Cheers
Russell

If you have lens corrections turned on it will severely curtail the k-5's buffer therefore reducing the Max FPS.

Do you have the latest firmware update? 1.01 oder 02 gave you a huge buffer-space back

What format are you shooting in? I could be wrong but isn't the FPS affected by the format? Meaning the camera shoots faster with mid grade j-pegs than raw files.

Takes a 3 shot burst, then pauses? That's definitely the distortion correction or the chromatic aberration correction. Turn them both off and try again.

Sincerely,

Not to steal this from the OP, but if I'm running into the same problem and I turn them off, how will this effect my IQ? Or are the default settings for the camera "off" from the factory?

turning off lens corrections only affects your image quality if you are shooting Jpeg.

Lens distortion is mainly visible with wide angle lenses and straight lines near the image borders, typically indoors. It's rarely a problem outdoors.

Chromatic aberration is mainly visible when shooting at wide open aperture in high-contrast situations. Coloured fringes will show along hard edges.

The corrections will only improve your IQ in the above mentioned situations. They are off by default because they slow the camera down.

Sincerely,
--Anders.

So then are my fps effected by what file format I'm shooting? In other words, can I shoot in RAW at 7fps or do I need to select a lower jpeg quality to pull it off without the camera buffering?
