Guys I need some help please. I am going to buy a k-5 this week and it is my first DSLR camera. I have been obsessing over finding a K-5 Limited Silver edition and I found one for $1,900 body only. Now a regular k-5 in only $1,200 so I would pay a huge premium for the Limited but I am a sucker for these types of things. The question is should I pay up and just get it because it has been discontinued and will be only harder to find, or just get the regular one and spend the extra money on lenses?

I agree. I'd much rather have a quality lens than the limited K5 body.

As others have suggested, it's your call whether you want to spend an extra $700 for the silver one. I personally wouldn't pay the extra money, but it all depends how much you really want it compared to how valuable that $700 is to you

If you plan to use the K-5 as a decorative item or a collector's item or a trophy, yes.

If you plan to use the K-5 to take photos, no.

In my opinion either way you look at it, it's not worth it. If you want to collect to sell down the track as a rare piece I wouldn't think it would be worth 60% more than the standard k-5.
I've also seen them go for less than $1500.
As for a photographic tool, as said before, it works exactly the same.

The only reason I would think to go that way is if you had All the DA &/or FA LTD's in silver, and wanted it to match. But thats just my thoughts

Marketing gimmick, except if you like to show off. But 99.9 % of the peoples who will see that silver camera will have no clue that a special edition

...to spend more money for good lenses and just get the best body that you can afford. Bodies don't last forever and, from your statements, it doesn't seem like you have money to burn.

Pentax seems like a good model. I am pretty new to it all but supposedly they not only make some great new lenses, but there are still a lot of great vintage lenses available.

However, who would want a three year old 6mp body that max's out at 800 iso, or something close to that? Hell, some people don't even want a new body that has focus calibration issues, or poor iso performance. But, I bet that some of the people that do have bodies like that are stoked that they have a good lens (or two or three, etc.) to throw on it to get the kind of image quality that they like.

The next body that Pentax comes out with might be light years better than the K-5. Hell, the specs sheets for the current bodies say they are good for AT LEAST 100,000 activations. Let's say that you shoot 200 times a day with 5 continuous frames each. That may be an extreme analogy, but your camera might last less than a third of a year before it croaks. I guess that the only good part about that is that it still should be under warranty!
