I agree completely.

i'd be happy with this - iso performace is good so dont have to worry overly about that - i mean its always nice for better iso performance but its not crucial at this point - so yeah happy with the sensor - happy with the ergonomics

faster processing engine and write speeds to give a larger buffer would be great along with a tracking autofocus system- yes please

maybe throw in a faster flash/shutter sync speed too and a k5 super would be great addition

the k3 i would expect (maybe that should be hope) to have a slightly different body probably with a fold out screen everything above and the 24mp sensor

It's july and now with Ricoh taking over Pentax coming october and time running so it will soon be march 2012 when we all would expect a new K-5 successor.

Would it be acceptable when our K-5 would be turned into a K-5 super?
  • Same body and ergonimics.
  • Same sensor.
  • New AF-module with tracking function.
  • New electronics design with PRIME-III processor that is at least twice the speed of our current K-5 and supports UHS-i writespeed.
  • That's it, and good to go to Photokina 2012 where anything new would come.

So with this limited change the lifetime of K-5 would be over two years and the body would be running since june 2009.
When I look at some early hi-iso pictures from Sony A77 and see howmuch smear there is in the pictures, I do hope that we just hang on to our 16 megapixel sensor for another year.

We don't need a "Super" version. Since the LX(I have two and had two ME Supers before that), Pentax has BS'd around. I was stationed in Korea when the SF1 came out(What?!). I was in Japan when the ME-F(yuck), Super Program(not bad) and P3(C'mon man) debuted. Instead of innovating, they're playing catch-up(why is the K5 the only Pentax to show 100% of the viewfinder after all these years?).

Full Frame sensor, OLED swivel LED panel(I kept the LX only because I loved the FC-1/FB-1 combo), more AF points and more MP's.

I think freshning the K5 or Photokina makes sense. A 'super' model isn't something that will inspire me to throw my k5 in the trash and go buy, but a face lift would
extent the selling life of a pretty good product for a while. The next full remake needs to take on the Sony 77 feature for feature which means a 24 mp sensor and an integrated GPS unit. Likewise it would be a good time to verify the new AF modual

Wow this took some extra time (the takeover probably), but it looks like we are gonna get this camera as K-5n (with updated 16mp sensor). I still think this is a brilliant idea!

Yep, its a "no-brainer" to reuse the K5 in the K5n spruce up. My one concern has been that i will do something stupid and trash my K5 somehow. With the K5n, i'd be able to turn around and buy the same model in a spruce-up.

I think its a given that the K5n will have the focus peaking feature of the K01.

I was just looking at the new Fuji APS mirrorless, the XE1. Well, the body only retails for $1000. But With the new 18-50 kit lens, its $1399. My conclusion is, its still possible to sell an aps camera for $1399. And the new XE1 does not even have all the features of the old K5. Only produces RAW files between ISO 200-6500. Extended iso range can only be done in jpeg.

Pentax will do well with the K5n.
