I have not had any of the issues you mentioned with mine, I have however ran into one tonight. You are from DC so you know of the super blanket lightning storm we had earlier tonight - I went out to shoot some lightning, and this is what I ran into:
Live View
Bulb Mode (10-20 second exposures)
Wireless Remote (shutter push on remote to start exposure, shutter push on remote to end exposure)
Every so often, it would lock up - the remote would all of a sudden not control the shutter, trying to push the shutter manually would not work either (this was after the picture has been processed by the camera and live view was active again) - to get shutter control again, I would have to turn off the camera and turn it back on.
Not sure if this was because of the rain, batteries, or what it was caused from - the camera was quite a bit wet. As of right now I am not too concerned with this issue, I will however keep an eye on it and see if it happens again...
FEI: I am extremely pleased (or, couldn't be more pleased) with my K5 and feel that at the moment there is no better fit for me - will try and see if I can find a stray silver one soon
