Hi folks,

Don't know if anyone here has taken delivery room pictures of newborns but I am curious to know what setup would be recommended to insur the best quality pictures.

I will be shooting with k-5 \ tamron 28-75 with no flash.
(I am not sure the docs would appreciate a flash going off in the room)

Normally I am in Tav mode but i don't think i will have room for a tripod and with the a shutter speed of 1/500 the ISO might be too high.


Any ideas, suggestions or tips from people who have shot in a delivery room before please advise.

Always had a point and shoot with me tho ... this time i really
wan't to pick up a couple nice shots for the album.

any wideish zoom is all you need...bright lights and tight spaces, no need for fast apertures nor long reach.

just don't tell your wife you need a wide angle lens to take her picture...such remarks will get you a knuckle sandwich.


...oh and make sure your camera is the THIRD most important thing in the room that day...don't miss enjoying and being a part of the moment.have fun and congrats!!

I shot my daughter's birth with a K7 and Tamron 28-75, so with a K5, its absolutely fine.

It depends on hospital lighting in the delivery room, but f2.8 is pretty fine in most parts where the 'action' takes place.
Tryng to keep 1/500 is a bit high. I think settling for 1/60 for more still shots and 1/180 for shots with some movement should be fine.

Mike SF Ill keep the lens at 28mm and worry about cropping in PP.

I discussed taking pictures with my wife and she is adamant that I get a few good ones for her. Because of the drugs she hardly remembers the last time. Her biggest memory is the pain and the bruised hand she left me with hahahah
