When shooting RAW (only) what is played back?

When shooting RAW (only) what processing is done on the image before displaying it on the LCD?

If I set WB, CUSTOM settings (eg contrast, BW filter ETC.) these seem to be reflected when the RAW image is played back. What I would really like to know is SHARPING and NR applied? If so this may give me a false sense of security about my image.

Is a small "processed" image created at image capture time and embedded in the RAW?

Cheers,

Tim

As far as I know the raw has a built in jpg tumbnail that has the same processings as your jpg settings in camera.
