Funny thing I noticed today. I had a few camerafreezes today (I think maybe 4 or 5). It is anoying, but then again the pain isn't so big. It is a lot freezing, since I didn't had it before so often.I did some sport shootings (beachvolleybal) in jpg and offcourse in hi-speed mode. So the shutter went up-and-down like a mad monkey.

Now it comes. I checked my shuttercount at the end (in PhotoMe) and thought, thats not to bad. Then I thought a second time about it and it didn't matched up with the last time I looked.

So with the camerafreeze I also freezed my shuttercount for some number. My shuttercount went up by some 1100 pictures less then I took today! I know that is a lot, but that's my way of taking photo's. It is good for my warrenty (good for 100.000 actuations), since it is on 41.000 at the moment.

I say this is a good side effect.

I use a lot Hi continuous shooting with K-7, but I take much less pictures than you. I have 17,000 shutter counts for 20 months, from which possibly 50% (or more) at in Hi mode. I have not yet experienced your problem, but would be keen to learn more.

Which camera?

Does it happen with long sequences (more than10 s)? or any burst length (short or long)?

Was your card full, near full, over 50% ?

Freezing...Flopping....this is not good to hear, but since I shoot Squirrels one frame at a time and don't care for Live View or Video, maybe I won't have a problem myself? Not much help for others though, regrettably.

Regarding the Warranty.....does it actually cover 100K actuations or just the time frame of one year? In other words if it fails in the 2nd year after 75K actuations...is it covered?

Time Based. the 100,000 relates to the average number of mechanical operations that they state the mechanism will survive for - i.,e what its 'rated for' in 'normal operation'. It might last 200,000... It could also implode after 70,000.....

Ratings are often much less than people would think... Did you know for example, that the USB A-Type connector - the most common - is only rated for 1500 Connect/Disconnect Cycles ? Thats only just over 4 years if you use a device every day - Less if you plug/unplug it multiple times a day.... ( I always laugh at this 'dirty secret' about USB.. considering its designed to make doing exactly that - plug/unplug - easier... This is why the front USB ports on PC's often stop working 'properly' or with 'all devices' after 18mths-2 years... the front ports are the most often used and rapidly reach their 1500 cycles...)

It was with K-5 Black, card was when it was the first time after 500 JPG's on a 32 GB card, so that only filled for less then 20 %. The battery was charged the day before, so here the same, less then 20 % used.

About flopping: the shutter worked normally, so no issues about what people refur to as mirrorflops.

Just looking where my first freeze was. I know almost, because I tried to show a picture to a player who just came off the field.

The camerafreeze was at shooting some playing with the ball for warming up of the next game.

So there is no image lost, just the shuttercount was set back by 280 actuations and that means that my estimation off having 4 or 5 camerafreezes would be having 4 freezes and the missing number in shuttercount ads up to a little over 1100.
