Ev bar

Hi
Just got my K5 after almost 2 years with K7.
Just used it with the kit lens, for a week,so it is time to change back to primes.
But here is the problem EV bar is doing nothing.
JUst wondering isn't the EV bar show metering with manual lenses?
Green button does work. But the EV bar shows nothing on k5, is that right?

You can use the On/Off/Preview lever to check the exposure with ME lenses. Ensure in the menu on Record Menu, Page 5, that Button Customisation is set to Optical Preview, and you can then hold the lever in the Preview position to see the exposure bar.

If you have the Level turned on, EV will show as a number rather than a bar (same with the K7). 0 is centered meter. But Yes, in M mode, when the meter is active, you should be seeing one or the other. I have my meter set to stay active for 30 seconds. As Dan suggests, you can also turn on Optical Preview and the meter will activate when you activate the preview and will follow whatever you do with your exposure setting (Tip: set your camera to adjust Shutter speed with the rear dial in M mode, also in the record menu).

This is to do with Real-Time Metering if that is what you are looking for

/*************************************/

I am guessing you are taking about the bar fluctuating from plus(+) to minus(-) in real time as you are moving the camera, correct?

No. Your EV bar in "Hyper Manual Mode" will not show metering with manual ("M" Type) lenses - it will however show what you are looking for (the fluctuating bar from + to -) when you have an "A" type lens attached and you are in manual mode.

Edit: The reason why the body can not show real-time metering with an "M" type lens but can with an "A" type is the "A" type lens send the information to the body that is needed for automated metering...
