Cannot believe I did it

On a whim last night I purchased the K5 from HSN.COM. They actually have a pretty good deal where you get the K5 with kit lens, extended 3 year warranty, Pentax sling carry bag and a RAW editing program by Arcsoft (probably pretty basic) for the standard 1349 price. Plus you can split the payments over 4 months and can return it through the end of January with their holiday return policy.

Cannot wait to see what all the awesome reviews are about...Now I need a good cheap prime lens to go with the kit lens.

And your "good cheap prime" would either be an older, manual-focus K-mount (like a 28mm f/2.8 or 50mm f/1.7) or the DA L 35mm f/2.4.

An easy cheap prime to pickup is a Pentax-A or M 50mm f1.7 or an SMC Takumar/Super Takumar 55mm f1.8 (even the F2 is decent!). I've also see other brand 50-58mm lenses that produce well go for cheap, even on fleabay.. Best bet is to hitup some pawn shops/thrift shops/salvation army stores etc.. sometimes you can find a real gem for next to free.. that is unless you are looking for an AF lens.. the DA L 35 seems to be a great performer!

Exactly. I picked up my M 50mm f1.7 for $25 shipped on ebay last year. Great lens but I prefer my $200 35mm for FL

My brother is giving me his F 50mm f1.4 next month and I can't wait to try it out...

If I had money for a new lens, at this point, the one I want the most is the 43mm ltd. Just a little wider than 50mm and I really like the colors and tones in the images I see from it. 35mm is almost a tad too wide, and I think my natural preference in FL for most situations is probably best filled by a 40mm or 43mm lens, and I have neither.

Congrats! I got mine a few weeks ago and really like it. As far as cheap primes, if you have an M-42 adapter, a 55mm 1.8 off of an old spotmatic works very well. Have fun with your new camera.

I love my 43Ltd (was my first lens for my K-5), I still prefer the feel of an my Super-Takumar 55mm f2, but there isn't much that stands up to the FA43 Ltd as far as sharpness, let alone the FA Ltd rendering. Hope you get your 43Ltd one day, I'm sure you'll love it too!

Unfortunately reading alone won't do it,

allow a bit of extra time for learning and hands on experimentation. After that the K-5 will be your best friend.

Love my K5 - read most of the manual, forgot lots and have to go back several times.
Most important thing I missed for a while was that anti-shake only works when you are on single frame shooting or it doesn't work with remote release on which was different to K10D

I cannot wait to try it. I bought the KR when it first came out and returned it. I had too many focus issues and blurry shots,even in good light. I honestly thought I had a bad camera and/or lens.
