After much internal turmoil, I have finally taken the plunge, and a K-5 and a DAL35 f/2.4 arrived on Friday...
Much happiness.
Coming from a K200d, the things that have made the biggest impressions are:
- Easy of use, especially the dual e-dail controls
- High ISO capability ISO6400 no problem
- FPS. Engage Hi, and 7-fps bursts (compared to 2.4fps for 3 RAW only) Wow!!
My younger daughter got hold of it and was shooting away before I could even finish unwrapping the parcel. She snapped off some nice samples with the DAL35 which seems to be a little gem.
I took it out for a shot with the Sigma 170-500 to a local bird santuary, and some of the results have been very pleasing. The higher ISO gives me lots of latitude to stop down and keep shutter speed high, all very useful to improve IQ at the long end.
Some samples from the first few days.
"Killer" Chloe, our Min Pin (DAL35)
Rock Clock DAL35 (gotta love the bokeh)
Jupiter Rising (ISO 6400, point at sky, and shot for 1s, amazingly low noise. K200d would be a blur at ISO1600)
Dabchick
Redknobbed Coot
Sacred Ibis
(unfortunately the head was in the late afternoon shadow)
