I guess OP is still on his backpacking trip. Would be nice if he reports back some day.

If the original poster is serious about being away from it all, and needs to pack it in, I think he should consider a helicopter drop or aerial/float plane drop. It's not that big a deal to drop supplies at GPS coordinates these days.

Never-mind the 2 bodies and ten batteries needed, what are your plans for image storage?.

p.s. 1 body for backup. 5 batteries should do it actually. Being conservative, easy 1k shots per battery.
Also, a number of chargers. 5 batteries will take 12-15 hours to recharge with a single charger. Would also require you to be up every few hours to switch batteries.

On a hike you may not have the time to recharge all, and also be too tired to wake up 5 times overnight.

Bump.

I'm curious about how the OP's trip went and what his experience was with the K-5. or whatever he used. I'm also sceptical that any real backpacker would in real life be shooting 500 shots per day. That's a lot of shooting and not enough drunken partying for any backpacker.

The PP backlog at the end of the trip of handling 500 shots per day taken over a six-month period (or about 90000 images as the OP states) would be a scary prospect too.
