Using a M lens in LV on the K-5

I hardly used LV on the K20D. Since I've got a few M lenses, I decided to see about using 10x zoom-in during LV on the K-5 to check focus accuracy.

With FW 1.11 I noticed I got what I assume to be lockups (requiring pulling out the battery) using a M lens in LV when I pressed the green button to stop down the lens - it seemed to leave it stopped down. This happened 3 times in a row.

Later when I tried it again, the green button worked as expected and set the shutter speed in LV and, after stop-down, opened up the aperture fully again, with LV still working normally.

Has anyone else experienced "lockups" doing this procedure, and if so, what is the sequence of operations that triggers it?

Dan.

I experienced the lockups as well, but I do not use M lenses very frequently anyway. Still I'm interested whether this is a common issue of all K-5's or only some are affected. I'm sorry I cannot contribute with more knowledge on reproducability of that issue.

Normally I don't use LV; just tried it and it does not lock up. I haven't had any lockups (yet) anyway. FW is 1.11

Did you try using the Info button to zoom in?

I think using LV with 6x , 8x or 10x when using a MF lens on a tripod for a static subject will help to get better focus accuracy than a 3rd-party focusing screen.

Hmm... In LV mode with magnification (8x), the green button does not do anything that I can see. At 1x magnification, it does the metering.

And still no lockups

I would guess it was fairly dark when it locked up. See this thread.

Yes, it was. Now that I know what triggers it, I can avoid this situation. Looks like it will be fixed in a future firmware update.

Thanks for clearing that up.

What now leaves me with the question why mine does not meter when enlarging the view?

Mine only meters on 1x too. It's not a great limitation:

1. Set exposure first
2. Then zoom to get a sharp focus.
3. Then press the shutter release button

Thanks, I thought you metered while the image was enlarged.

I was not specifically worried about it, but just curious

I've updated to Firmware 1.12 and, although undocumented, it does fix the green button LL lockup problem, described here
