Which SD card is a better deal?

Which would you people choose? Each of these cards is a Boxing Day special, each one is $25.

a) Sandisk 8 GB Extreme Pro 45 MB/sec

b) Sandisk 16 GB Extreme 30 MB/sec

I've read over the threads about speed capabilities of the K-5. I don't shoot videos, ever. And I seldom fill up an 8 GB card in one shooting. Which card would you recommend?

Based on what you said, I'd pick the 16GB, only because you said you seldom fill up a 8GB - but seldom means it has happened on occasion. On the other hand, if you shoot a lot of RAW or JPG + Raw, you should consider the faster card for quicker recovery.

I'd recommend the 16 as I do not think that the K5 can write as fast as the Extreme Pro 45 MB/sec. Also, if you shoot RAW or RAW+JPEG you can fill up a 8gb card pretty quickly. Adorama had a great deal on 2 16mb cards last time I looked (best price I could find).

30MB/sec speed is plenty for the k-5, so for the same price I would go with the 16GB. That 16GB will be useful also later if you want to upgrade to the k-5 successor model which could be using bigger file size (sensor with more pixels).

the Sony 24mp rumour (apsc) has been floating around (and makes sense) for K5 replacement
then there is all the FF 24mp rumours as well

I'd look at the 8 GB Lexar Professional 2 Pack for $31.95 or the 16GB 2 Pack for $45.95 at B&H . Also, Lexar is much easier to remove from the K-5 than the Sandisk.

Why do you say this. Does it have more of a lip to grab. I have all sandisk and they are a bugger to get out of some of my cameras.

I just sand them down a little with an emory board. Give them a thorough wipe-down afterwards and they practically fly out of the camera.

I'm in Canada. The shipping charges will be $16 making this a less attractive option.

To the extent of my understanding, the read/write speed of the K-5 is already the choke point with a 30MB/s, so moving up to a 45MB/s card shouldn't show any perceivable speed increase. Go for the size...

Lexar is slightly smaller width wise allowing easy removal.

This is true, however, the Ontario Sales Tax of $4.15 is included in the $ 16.00. If you only need the one card you can't go wrong with the 16 GB for $25.00. As for myself, I prefer working with two 8 GB cards so not to keep all my work on one card in case it craps out on me.
