The K-5: Natural light and ISO 4000

I just took this shot today, indoors with natural light through a nearby window. It's a house guest making friends with our pit bull terrier. I used a Pentax 50mm f/1.4 prime, set on aperture priority f/2.8; it went to 1/200 second and worked out to ISO 4000. I was really impressed with the quality of the pic at this high ISO. I bought the K-5 about a year ago specifically to take advantage of its high ISO capability, among other things. The picture was reduced with Photoshop elements 7, but is otherwise untouched. Whatcha think?

Websized as it is now, I can't even see noise. Some luminance noise is shown in the OOF areas, but that's really hard to notice (unlike chromatic noise).

Looks good

Wow, I want my K-5 to arrive NOW! It looks like K-7 at ISO400 to maybe ISO800.

Yes it's one of the best things about this camera, I think nothing now of shooting at ISO 1000 to 4000 when needed, whereas before, I never went over ISO 800 on my K100DS. It's a whole new World!

Ditto with the other comments; iso 4k-5k looks like iso 1250 from earlier sensors. Great image, well shot - you scored, and the camera gets credit for the assist

Love the picture, and love that the camera can provide it.

From my brief experience 6400 seems to the sweet spot -- if properly exposed. (Keep in mind that I generally have a documentary reference) Almost at good as 800 on my 200d.
I do start picking up noise at 12,800, but considering it can make the difference between getting the shot or not, it's a reasonable trade-off.
25,600 -- sand paintings under most circumstances.
51,200 -- just kick up the contrast, desaturate and call it "Tri-X boiled in Rodinol."
