I just upgraded to the Metz af50 and have been taking the best pictures I've ever taken. Now I have been using sync cables and wireless triggers just fine with it but I found myself the other day without either and I was wondering if there's a way to trigger the Metz off camera with the k-5 without anything else. If so can someone tell me how coz I'm stumped lol

I thought the 50AF could be trgiggered from the built in flash in master/slave mode? Set the 50 up as slave, the built-in as master.

I get nothing lol for a start I can't put my k-5 into wireless mode. I'm confused lol

Metz is in slave tried all channels also

Check the manuals for both units. You want to set the K-5 as master or controller - see page 190-193. The 50AF as slave - see page 99/ sect 9.2.

Make sure the sensor on the 50 can 'see' the control flash from the camera. I tried it a couple times on my 58 and it does work!

From viewing Pentax videos on setting their own flashes up for slave functions, and reviewing the manual - you may have to 1st set up the flash/body with the flash on the body, before moving it to the desired location.

I know I went through the procedures in the manuals and it wasn't that hard at all. Keep messing with it - you'll get it!

ok so basically wireless operation out the window with manual lenses :-( any work around for this? i love my manual lenses lol

Can't recall correctly, but i gues manual focus lenses works with wireless flash, but can't test it right now.

Have you set the channel correctly on the camera? Just select one channel on the flash, put it on the K5, select wireless flash on the camera , then just half press the shutter. The channel will be showned on the top LCD.
If after this, the flash still doesn't fire wirelesly, may be a fault on the METZ.
I have one to, and mine is not working properly on wireless PTTL, only with SERVO slave.

Ahhh - "...with manual lenses..."

From the K-5 manual on pg 191 'Built-in Flash in Wireless Mode': "memo: When..., or the lens aperature is not set to A, {wireless mode for the built-in flash} cannot be selected."

This could be the problem!

I did see a thread about blocking the pin on the lens that indicates a manual/A lens...this might help??
