Hello,

I just purchased the K-5 (body only) from amazon on March 1st 2012. I found this web site and started reading threads to learn and found others with concerns about serial numbers and manufacture dates. I put my serial number into the database 4016031 and found the manufacture date to be March 2011.

Should I have any concerns that this sat on a shelf for a year? The shutter count was zero, checked it with the first picture I took. This is my first DSLR and want to make sure i start out on the right foot.

Well the numbers are not always in the right order with Pentax. With PhotoMe you can also look into the fabricationdate that is also in the exif info of pictures from the camera. The waiting time is no problem for the electronics, since they where not on power and I guess just laying around.

Pentax serial numbers don't really mean much as far as manufacture date goes. As Ron says, use an exif reader to pull the manufacture date off the camera.

Thanks all. The manufacture date says 2011:03:10. I probably am reading to much into it. I am just going to enjoy the camera and start the learning. I appreciate the feedback.
