Just loaded it to my big 27inch screen to have a closer look. It is fantastic. But you do worked the frame to its maximum since you have posterisation in the upper left corner where there isn't enough detail left in the blacks. But who is looking for such minor things. Absolute fantastic!

I looked at it on my 30" Dell and only noticed some banding in that corner. But it is 'only' a jpeg after all so it's to be expected. I doubt that the RAW files would have any banding at all.

Thanks guys for all the fantastic comments, they are all appreciated.

Yes you are right, the jpeg will show some irregularities. I can assure you that the tiff or raw version does not!
I have had this image printed to about 1.0m wide and it looked very impressive.
The max size for the exhibition is 60" so I am thinking of going for it. It will be on canvas so I think the image will handle it.

I don't like canvas photographic prints. Being a painter I appreciate the way a brush interacts with the texture of canvas and contributes to the way the actual image is made whereas photographic images overlaid onto canvas just don't do that. It's such a nice image that I would advise a metallic print (or a 'normal' print on matte paper) with a nice heavy white or creme coloured window matte.

BTW, which Sigma lens is it? (the 3.5 or the variable aperture)

Yes bossa I am always in two minds about canvas prints. When I had this image recently printed it was done exactly as you suggested and looked great.
However the problem here is one of logisitics. As Genuis printing (based in Melbourne) are printing the image for free it will be easier for them to do it on canvas. That way the thing is finished and ready for hanging.
Otherwise I would have to arrange to have it framed over there. It's still an option I am keeping in mind.
The lens is the 3.4-4.5. At f8 this lens can produce some very sharp images.

Well probably the same thing and your explanation is probably the better one. :ugh:

That sounds like a plan and I guess you'll know after the fact if it was the correct way to go.

Thanks for the info re' the lens. I have a 8-16mm but have no images that work on the level of those in the Sigma 10-20 thread. There are so many amazing images in that thread that it really is difficult to think this lens doesn't add some kind of magic even though I know it's really people people in the end.

Cheers
Steve
