The only problem with the Warehouse deals are... no warranty. I have no concerns about the condition, but should something stupid happen in the first year, your are SOL. And you can't apply the Pentax 2 year to it as you are not buying it new.

ProDigital 2000 has the camera new for $949, and a store demo model for $929. You would be getting the interantional warranty instead of the US one but I thought it was worth the difference, and bought mine there. They are a reputable firm, I've bought several lenses from them also.

They are a reputable dealer (Carmens Fotosource is the Brick and mortar name, they are about 40 minutes from Buffalo)

I've decided to put a hold on my K-5 purchase (I was all ready to do it) because I found out about the across the board Pentax price increases. It upsets me.

And there are many of us who uses old Pentax lenses on our DSLR that hasn't seen the effects of the DA series increase.
I trust MF with Katzeye screen than AF on most lenses, especially at wider apertures anyways.
Two of my favorite lenses are Sigma 28mm mini-wide and Sears 55mm f/1.4. Both MF, and under $50.

Yeah I have a lot of nice manual focus pentax glass that is lovely.. I use this all the time.. I rarely use the autofocus kit lens--only for shooting fast moving things.

I think I'm just gonna sell my pink k-x body (for like $300 or so I guess).. keep the 18-55 lens and buy a used K-5 body off amazon for $800. Amazon has a 30 day no questions asked return policy and that should be enough time for me to determine if there is anything wrong with it at all.. Then i'll just risk that it stays ok for the next few years.. if not I'll just pay the repair cost which shouldn't be more than $300 or so?

So this will be like a $500 upgrade and I'll have a camera that takes better pictures than anything under a few grand.

For example: http://snapsort.com/compare/Canon_EOS_5D_Mark_II-vs-Pentax_K-5 (omgz 2.2 f stops more dynamic range.. who needs HDR?)
.... .ties the D3.... http://snapsort.com/compare/Nikon_D3-vs-Pentax_K-5

Actually the K-5 has 1.9 f stops more dynamic range than the D3 , LOL! That's HUGE!

Now that I think about it I am not worried too much about prices.. It's supply and demand that dictates price not Pentax.. they can try and meddle as much as they want but I will still get lenses at affordable prices.. I'll buy used if I have to.

The limiting factor is the person behind the camera, not the camera itself. But if you feel your k-x is not enough for your skills, or you need the extra features k-5 has to take pictures, go for it!

I need that sensor in the K-5 That's it pretty much in a nutshell. The extra dynamic range, color depth and image quality is really noticeable between the k-x and k-5.

Okay, it's settled, I went ahead and purchased a used, in "Like New" condition Pentax K-5 from Amazon--Warehouse Deals--for $814 with free two day shipping (I'll have it Monday). They have many for $796 but all of them said in the notes they have minor cosmetic imperfections (on front, bottom, back or side etc.)--so I figure it's worth $20 more to get one that is supposed to be Like New.

I have 30 days to return it if I don't like it--free return shipping even. It's worth a shot. I'll put it through as many tests as possible.

I just couldn't pass up this deal.. a used D7000 is at least $1100 and I already got a lot of Pentax glass.

I'm really excited--this will be such a nice upgrade!

plus 1 you will likely be very happy

As for the price increases don't worry about it too much Ned has as much as said the pricing will settle down and there will be rebate programs to offset the increase. this is already the case over at canikon and Sony so pretty much it brings Pentax in line with the industry.
Plus for those of you in the US who have trouble seeing things in stores he hinted at target carrying the WR lineup (1700 store whose colour is red - sounds like target to me)

+1

I own the Kx and recenlty upgraded to the K5. I havent had the opportunity to run it through all its paces, but in my limited use I couldnt be more happy.

The only thing that I have found to complain about is the same issue raised by an earlier poster. There is no point having a digital level if it cant be calibrated.
