Pentax K-5 video format

Hello

I just wanted to know if it's possible to change the video format on the Pentax K-5.
As you know it records HD videos in the Motion JPEG codec, so maybe it's possible to switch to H.264, MP4 or any similar codec by updating or changing the firmware.

Please do not start a discussion whether Motion JPEG is a good video format or not. Everyone has different opinions about that. All I want to know is if it's possible at all to change video formats. Not if it's a good or a bad format.

Thank you in advance.

Cheers,

Mike

I believe that the video file format is .AVI and cannot be changed.

Personnally I use Adobe Media Encoder CS5 or Xiliosft video converter when I need to convert the video format.

Hope that the info will help.

Thank you. The problem is that MJPEG needs a lot of space on my SD card so it would be very nice if I could switch to a more "compressed" video code but it seems that it's not possible.

Your files are .AVI, but you can change the video resolution (in setup). A lower video definition will result in a smaller video file size for the same video duration.

No. The native format can't be changed in-camera.

Oh, pity! It would've made the K-5 perfect for me.
However, I'm eagerly awaiting the K-30. Although it is inferior at some points to the K-5 it brings an efficient video format, which makes it perfect for my demands .
