dpreview rates D800 lower than K-5

Have you seen it yet?? The new D800 gets a total score of 82% over at dpreview. The K-5 is at 83%. Of course it's not much higher, but what's interesting is to do a comparison of the different things... Like, the K-5 gets better marks at low light/high iso, as well as viewfinder.

I knew I loved my K-5 for a reason...

They say scores aren't comparable cross class. The D800 is a higher class camera.

Realistically, the K-5, while a wonderful camera, if released in 2012, would not have recieved as high a score.

I agree- you can't really compare these scores directly. I have no doubt, however, that this year's high-end Pentax will do just as well as the K-5 did two years ago.

Actually, both are rated in the same "Semi-professional" class.

Not sure if this is true (although I suspect you are correct). For dpreview to be credible, they really shouldn't be using a floating metric, without re-scoring all the previous reviews. A few years ago they did revamp their whole scoring method which I guess is inevitable, and probably the right way to do this. Do the PF detailed reviews and ratings need to be derated, just because a newer product was tested?

(Consumer Reports seems to do this without any explanation -- you will see some products (electronics, cars, whatever) rated something one month, and then a few months later they move the scores around, up or down. I guess it is one way for CR to try to remain relevant.)

Anyhow, I want to believe that my K-5 would receive exactly the same score it did when first reviewed by dpreview.

Too bad Pentax didn't make the K5 have a 4 AA battery option. I'd luv to buy 2 or 3 of them.

Well, DPR put both K-5 and D800 into the same class...

DPR really need to think about those ratings. K-5 video rated better than D800? Give me a break...

You do know that you can use AA batteries in the grip, right?

The K-5 is an excellent performer, but just because DPR says it is rated in the same class as the D800 does not necessarily hold any water. Different bodies and far too many ways to list. Just the fact that DPR says the K-5 is superior to the D800 for video is laughable.
