sigma HSM compatable with K5

Hi Guy, I'm looking at up grading my 18-55mm wr lens to a Sigma 17-70mm DC OS HSM,... Question doe's the K5 support HSM because Sigma website Say's unless your Pentax supports HSM the auto focus will not work,

Anybody got this lens with a K5 and does it auto focus

Cheers

Some HSM lenses works and others don't, Apparently the 30 1.4 DOESN'T.
I know that HSM on both my 70-200mm F2.8 HSM macro II and 150-500mm DG OS HSM DO work even though the 150-500 sigma australia told the previous owner it didn't.

@clippo, I think you already understand but, just in case, all current Sigma Pentax-mount lenses work with the K-5. Some that include HSM for other mounts do not have HSM for Pentax; they revert to screwdrive autofocus.

@Chaos_Realm, regarding the 30/1.4, I think it focuses okay with the K-5 screwdrive but is not an HSM lens. It's not an issue of the HSM not working, the HSM feature is simply not there for the K-mount version of the 30.

One thing that I think is worthy of mention and Ive noticed it never gets mentioned lol
Important, especialy for JPG shooters. it seems you lose a number of things like auto lens correction etc when third party lenses are used.

Yeh I realised that when someone mentioned they didn't have hsm on some lenses in Pentax mount. I checked out the specs on it and that turned out to be the reason. Thanks for pointing it out though. I had made a rather loose assumption all new sigmas would have hsm.

I have the Sigma 17-70 HSM OS....works perfectly with my K5. Fast and accurate. The OS is also very good, but don't forget to switch off SR if you use it. Nice rich colors from this lens, and a joy to use!
Regards!

Some Sigma HSM lenses don't work in Live View and need to be re-chipped in order to work using LV.

Sigma AF 55-200mm DC OS HSM & K-5 Question

Ahoy!

Having just ordered and received this lens, after connecting to my K-5 and turning off the in-camera IS and turning on the camera OS, I can't see any effect in the viewfinder or feel any vibration through the lens. I've contacted the vendor to see what can be done (replace or send to Sigma UK) and am awaiting a response, but I am unsure if the K-5 supports HSM (the AF and zoom work perfectly) and the IQ is very, very good, so I'm confused as to why I'm not seeing the OS effect via the viewfinder. Hopefully this will get sorted, but if anyone has any suggestions in the meantime, please chip-in.

Thread necromancy! @Pirate, you probably should have opened a new thread. Regardless:

With OS you might not feel vibration but you should see a change in the viewfinder. Zoom to 200mm with OS off. Look at a distant object through the viewfinder. Move the camera around a little bit and note how the view changes. Then turn on lens OS and repeat; you should see a different movement pattern in the viewfinder. Occasionally press the shutter halfway to keep the camera awake - lens OS loses power when battery-saver mode activates.
