K-5 & Third Party Flash.

What is the best overall, hands down flash for our favorite DSLR?

For a third party flash, Metz is probably the best brand, might even be better than the in-house Pentax brand ones. The Metz 58 AF-2 has a metal mount to attach to the hot shoe, no fear in breaking that one which I find the most breakable piece of any flash gun.

Haha just from my opinion? I would wait a little longer and see what others have to say. Plus side on most Metz flashes now days is that they have a small USB-like port on the side of the flashgun for updates, so make sure you hook yours up to the computer and update it if you plan on getting it. I had a 48 AF-1 before and it's one awesome flash gun although the 58 is more powerful and the AF-2 has a metal mount, it's awesome. The Pentax 540 FGZ has more buttons so it's easier to access through the menus but I think the Metz has more features.

You can find a Metz 48 for cheap. $150 to $200. It is a lot of flash for your money...

Do you want it to be pTTL? How much do you want to spend? There are some Tumax TTL flashes that are about $100 new from Amazon that work rather well. But, if you want the best and can wait isn't Pentax rumored to be coming out with a replacement for the 540?

My last flash(Vivitar 5600) was left on a rock in Lake Tahoe. Before that, a Sunpack 611, Vivitar 285. Don't want to pussyfoot around. Never used P-TTL with my LX and this will afford me the opportunity.
