I dropped my K5 :(

I just dropped my K5 from waist height to the concrete when trying to get my house keys out of my pocket... i freaked out! my DA*55 was mounted up too...

So far, it looks like my filter took the damage and shattered. The lens looks free of any damage other wise, SDM is still operational.

The camera, still focusing, still locks, functions seem to be okay, but the LCD screen is shattered. I also hear something moving around inside more than normal...

has anyone had to replace the LCD screen? What kind of cost should I be expecting? I'm freaking out because I have a wedding on September 22 to shoot and I doubt I'll get my camera back in time....

Sorry to hear. I don't have experience with the replacing a shattered LCD, but it is probably a good idea to send it in to have it checked out after a drop anyway.
If you were in LA I'd offer to lend you one of mine for your gig, maybe someone up north can come through for you.
I feel for you.

no. none

I was stupid. I was trying to get my car keys out of my pocket, while holding onto my K5, my guitar case, and a bottle of water. something had to give... you think I would have put the guitar down? nope, too tired to think of that.

Bummer, I always use the "alcohol" excuse (even when i'm not drinking).

I'm sad to hear about your K-5.

I wouldn't worry about something moving inside, it's IS. Just test to see if IS is working properly and you should be good to go. Sorry to hear about the screen, but that can always be hopefully, replaced.

I recall in a thread a long time ago you were going to buy a backup camera like a K-x?
Now would be a good time to do so.

I am afraid it won't be cheap. The only time I ever had an LCD problem was when I got caught in a big thunderstorm with my K100 and got soaked. That was going to be 250 dollars to fix, but it was internal electronics problems as well. Hope it is a quick and painless fix for you.

I smacked my K5 when I slipped on some rocks when climbing a hill. The bottom panel was gouged. No harm in operation. When I sent it in for warranty (stains) they fixed the damage for a fee along with the sensor and a couple of other minor issues. Pentax Canada and it was a bit more than $300. Came back calibrated and working better than new.

Even if its $300 its worth it because I love this camera so much.

However I because of my 2 paying jobs (one tomorrow) and a possible 3 and 4 over the next few weeks I went and bought a K30. Had to take the wife shoe shopping after tho... So I'm waiting for that to finish up.

P.s. I just bought 3 extra batteries for my K5 on Wednesday!!! I hope the new K3 or whatever uses the same battery pack...
