HDMI out question

Dose K-5 live output sound though HDMI output? (same about K-01)
I want to try using this Atomos Ninja 2 - HDMI Field Recorder, Monitor, Playback & Playout Device with K-5 to record video.

Only DSLR useful would be the Nikon D800 and maybe the D600, for the rest it's all the same as pentax.

The K5 output is not "clean" but it's great output. I don't think anyone should equate "clean" with bad/good. The HDMI output works very well and I use it all the time with an external monitor.

The Zacuto folks even updated their firmware to deal with the K5, but for the most part, there are few problems with it - hence - no need for the "clean" output of other manufacturers.

Lauren you're missing the point, i83N wants to record the HDMI stream.
So yes clean is important then!

The HDMI stream is a little different than monitoring it - kinda like RAW vs. JPEG, so I understand.

However, I have never been able to get too much recording time due to heating issues and the limitation on file size.

So the only *real* benefit of a device like the above is to bypass the file size of the camera and to record directly to external media.

Even with that benefit, I'm not sure how heating issues are a factor and working with HUGE files is not that much fun to begin with.

Then, if there is any compression in the above device, then the benefit of the RAW HDMI stream just went out the window!

My video workflow with the K5 is to work with TWO K5s, and to keep my clips very short.

The device above is very nice no doubt and it would be great to get the HDMI stream. No argument there. However, it's not a deal or workflow breaker when using the K5.

I don't doubt you understand it but i do believe you missed that part of the question when you said that clean wasnt important

The D800 has clean uncompressed HDMI output so you get better quality file and i thought to have read that the D600 has it as well.

this with the recorder the OP wants to use.

So like you said, will this be a show stopper?
