The HDMI stream is a little different than monitoring it - kinda like RAW vs. JPEG, so I understand.
However, I have never been able to get too much recording time due to heating issues and the limitation on file size.
So the only *real* benefit of a device like the above is to bypass the file size of the camera and to record directly to external media.
Even with that benefit, I'm not sure how heating issues are a factor and working with HUGE files is not that much fun to begin with.
Then, if there is any compression in the above device, then the benefit of the RAW HDMI stream just went out the window!
My video workflow with the K5 is to work with TWO K5s, and to keep my clips very short.
The device above is very nice no doubt and it would be great to get the HDMI stream. No argument there. However, it's not a deal or workflow breaker when using the K5.
