I'm thinking about getting the K-5IIs as second body in the long run. The Problem is I simply don't know if the fur of my favorite subjects is creating moire or not. Google couldn't help me either.

Does someone here know how non-AA sensor reacts to fur / feather structures?

only repetitive patterns, fabric, bricks from far away, the windows of a skyscraper... if the subject has straight vertical and/or horizontal lines that line up with the pixel mesh of the sensor, thats when you get moire.
so it will be ok for natural, organic patterns...

I know, but nature is full of repetitive patterns. The question was, are there intensive enough to trigger moire.

patterns you find in nature rarely have fine straight lines that line up with the sensor mesh to trigger moire...
so, fur and feathered creatures are ok :-)

i understand that you are into buying a IIs, my advice is to wait and see real life tests of the camera before you buy it, i'm sure that for the little furry creatures it will be wonderful, but if the moire is very visible in other situations i would think about it twice...
all in all, i'm optimistic that the k5IIs will be an excellent camera with super sharp results, and that moire wont be much of an issue, but, as with everything, i have to see real life samples to make sure it'll suit my needs before i make any move.

Yes, you can get weird artifacts from things in nature. It will not be as obvious as from repetitive lines, as the fault will not be repetitive. But you will get "faulty" pixels now and then inserted between or around thin details. I've seen it several times with the old K10d and it's weak AA-filter.

I could see waves causing moire patterning - which might be interesting.

In shooting with a Leica M8 (no AA filter) for over a year I've seen no moire patterns. I usually shoot small town street scenes, landscapes, natural stuff (trees, flowers), and my cats.
