K5 top display problem

Has anyone else experienced a problem with the K5 top display? Some of it's segments don't appear as they should. Light finger preassure helps, but then they disappear again..

You are the first one that I have heard of. Looks like a trip to a service center is needed.
My Fluke 87 multimeter has acted like that couple times in the past, it was caused by high resistance in the display panel contacts. It was easy enough to fix by cleaning the contacts with a pencil eraser.

So the display has been replaced in the authorised service centre, under warranty.

Same here

Well, I have the same problem. When shooting outdoors and there is like 10 degrees or less, some of those block simply disappear, but pushing on the thumb grip below solves the problem in almost every temperature, so it seems to be caused by the signal-transfer rubber underneath the lcd. My K-5 is no more under warranty but I would really love to have this fixed. Any idea how much should this cost?

Top Display Pentax K5: Segments not correct display-ed: Disassembly of K5

Allthough an old thread:
My Pentax K5IIs "displayed" exactly the same problem, segments of the top-display didn't show correctly anymore.

I disassembled the body which is pretty straight forward:

- 1 hidden screw underneath the K5IIs logo (and of course those 2 underneath the rubber eye-cap and the 2 showing when the flash pops open
- 1 hidden screw deep inside the battery compartment! Very important not to forget this one!

It actually would be enough just to take the top-part off but I disassembled the whole body for cleaning it anyway because the magnesium body does corrode slightly at the end parts.

- The top display is fixed with 3 screws. Unscrew those.

- Then the frontwheel fixed with 2 screws, careful, there is a ball which could fall out!

- 2 x flat ribbon cables: 1 x wide one directly to the display the other pretty small. Take those off.

- The inner part of the AE-L button which is stuck with some kind of elastic glue and 2 plastic rods, easy to take off.

I then just disassembled the display itself and reassembled it again.

What really was the cause I have no idea, possibly a tiny contact problem with the large ribbon cable.

Assembling the front wheel took a little bit longer, first I got this ball into the wrong place, there is a little metal round part: The ball sits in there.

I just put the battery in, plugged a lens onto the body, top-part without screws: Test: All was fine again.

Pretty straight forward and a pleasure to see a K5-series DSLR open again for the incredible craftsmanship that went into this camera,
starting with the K-7!
