The pattern in the red pillow case at 1600 is really suffering even more so than the K5. Otherwise I do not see much difference. The k5 is a little warmer, colours more saturated and k5II a little brighter.

How can you say this when the shots are JPGs based on the default (still "Bright" setting, I assume). This page states that Pentax' Bright setting has more contrast and saturation than most other manufacturer's defaults, while Natural has less saturation than others:

Two new digital camera test targets at Imaging Resource

I think you have to use RAW output to make such a comparison, if you're going to actually rate one as "inferior." I'm open to the possibility that the Pentax reds are "inferior," but this doesn't prove it to me. Since you can customize each of the JPEG settings (I have on the "Portrait" setting) it could well be that the K-5 II is just fine once you make the adjustments. I personally didn't like Bright, which is why I chose Portrait on my K-5, but I could no longer tell you exactly how I determined that. Perhaps my reds are better - I don't know.

I wonder if and or when the IIs sample outputs will be available?

It does seem this way in JPG.
But in RAW everything looks fine.

Though I do wonder if this is due to the JPG engine itself or... a particular setting.
At any rate, I can see no difference between the K-5 II and original K-5 in this test, though I am looking forward to the IIs samples myself.

Note that only the K-5 II has studio sample images available there at the moment.
Nothing for IIs yet.

The file in the comparometer is NRAD, I guess that is auto and it gives similar results in regards to loss of detail with the red pillow as NR3 at ISO 1600. Looking at the NR0 file,I take it no NR, it leaves slightly more noise but much, much more of the detail is retained with much less smearing. Result is night and day really.

To me, any JPEG color comparison is meaningless. There are too many variable in how JPEGs are processed, and that is no reflection of the RAW data when it comes to colors. Also, the lens used has a significant impact on Reds as well. Put on an A35-105 and you'll get wonderful Reds, just as one example.

From what I've seen, the difference in IQ is fairly minimal between the K-5 and K-5 II, however, this is beta firmware and it's already better.

Let's not forget the other fixes with this camera, though! Really looking forward to AF tests.

Bang on, the Pentax reps told me this upgrade was about auto-focus.
