I miss the "Image Comparison" function on K5 IIs

Somehow Pentax marketing discovered the only playback menu function I ever use on my k-5 is the Image Comparison. So they called engineering and had them replace it with a GPS function on the k-5 II and IIs. Thought it was just me but the manual (pp 208-209) backs it up. Well, at least the part about it being replaced.
Can anybody imagine some reason they would do that and any possible way to accomplish the function some other way in-camera?

Indeed, it's gone. We'll have to add this to the review...

Could it be they had to remove one function in order to add the SEL area expansion? From a software development standpoint, this could well be the case if you're lazy or don't want to refactor, lol.

As a lifelong IT guy that was my first and only guess. Otherwise it makes no sense.

First, the auto-rotate on playback gets axed (from K-7 to K-5), and now this... Couldn't they have removed less useful things like the DPOF options and the "generate index page" instead ?

I agree. I wonder if anyone ever uses the DPOF stuff.

I do occasionally . . . by blundering into it when I am trying to do something else.

I've used the generate index feature once, for a print. It was OK but nothing special. Everyone uses
a computer for that instead.

Never used it; may be they had limited size for the software and were obliged to remove code to let space for new, more useful features

The K-5, K-7, K-r, Kx, K2000/km, K200D, K20D all had playback image comparison. Why get rid of it? . After the K-3, K-3II they apparently got rid of the separate AE lock and AF back buttons; newer models don't have them, do they? Two features I liked and used and they're axed.
