K5iis First Impressions (Ongoing)

I've just ordered my K5iis with 35mm f2.4 and 17-70/4, it is currently out of stock but it should arrive by Thursday (I'm hoping). I'll be writing my first impressions in this thread, particularly about the body, af, and sharpness compared to my K-30.

Misleading?

So you just posted to say that yo will be posting in the future? Why didn't you wait until after you tested your k5iis?

yea, what do you guys think of the high iso performance, I know the dpreview test is unreliable, but it's keeping up with the d3x and 1dx up to 6400 and it trumps k-30, k-5, sony a77, d7000. detail also looks awesome

LOL...thats funny.

But give the guy a break, we've all been there...checking the tracking info online evey 5 minutes to see if there is an update, listening outside for the sound of the delivery truck etc.

Well, I must say, it is wonderful to hold in the hands, it is just perfection. Superb image quality and I'm visiting Canterbury tomorrow so will post pics.

Gooseta, I bought a K5 in July and took advantage of the £80.00 rebate. Looking at the online tracking and waiting for the delivery is all part of the positive buying experience. Like you I bought from SRS, they are brilliant as well.
If you get as much pleasure with your IIs as I do with the original model, then your Christmas has already startedf.
Richard.

A few questions for you: on the "other" forum, you say you shot these as RAW & only tweaked exposure in PP? The first shot looks like a jpg to me, mostly because the sky is so blotchy and the image is soft. That may have something to do with how the images are uploaded and/or "refined" by the other site. The second one with the wall, when viewed at 100%, almost made me sick to my stomach. It's almost as if there is a double exposure going on. I notice what appear to be sharpening halos, but that could also be part of that double exposure look I was talking about. The rest of them look good, although if I had to guess, I would have said they were straight out of a II, not a IIs. I'm merely stating what I am seeing, so please don't take this the wrong way.

Thanks for posting the link to these. Please let us know if you run across anything with the new body that you really like, dislike, or is generally noteworthy.

"The other forum" has the worst rendering gallery in the universe.
@OP I suggest uploading to Flickr or something and then linking here.

Congratulations on your new camera. This model certainly interests me.

There seems to be a couple of things that are a little "off" to me with the images you posted--even in their larger incarnations. The focus seems a little soft, and the rendering of the stonework seems a tad plasticky--like when I add too much noise reduction to my Canon RAW files. Maybe if I could see the aperture information on the EXIF data I would have more understanding.

I guess there's some baseline value if you are posting straight unsharpened RAWs converted to jpg, but I'd like to see shots processed with typical workflow and craft applied. Why don't you post some more with complete data?
Thanks,

M

It could be that my manual focusing is not very precise :\ It was taken with the 50/1.7 so no aperture data.
