Hello! I have a problem tv out on a k-5 ii. It doesnt work at all. Im conecting the a/v cable to the camera and tv, i turn on the camera, then i switch from TV to AV and nothing happens... I think im doing something wrong

You switch between the Tv and Av modes on the top dial? Or something on your television? Check your manual for the instructions, but if my memory is correct you do this:
turn camera off
connect to TV
Set TV input to A/V cable or something similar in the menu of your television
Turn camera on
You'll get a screen showing your settings (the info screen).

Just for the record, Tv mode is where you set the shutter speed (called "S" by others) and Av mode is where you set the aperture (called "A" by others). Nothing to do with the video out

I was talking about tv and av modes on televison...not the comand dial...thank you. Lets try!

Yeah. You'll need HDMI for video, the analog cable only displays info and playback I think.

With the K-5 II you get a full LiveView video feed (PAL or NTSC) of whatever the camera is seeing just using the supplied composite cable (page 224-225 of the manual). HDMI not required.

Using an HDMI cable for your video out does, however, allow you to set video output into your monitor to various HD modes (1080i, 780p etc).

Do you have a K-5 II manual? All the instructions for using an external video monitor for the K-5 II are there, between pages 224 and 227 of the English language version of the manual.

@rawr It says on page 224 that connecting via HDMI is needed for real-time video recording feed. I assumed it was the same for Live view.

Although the manual is cryptic about it, a full LV feed is indeed available just using the composite cable. Plug the cable into camera and TV, turn on the camera and TV, press LV, see your LV display on the big screen. I just confirmed this a minute ago using the lounge room TV

, and it does indeed work. It worked the same way on the K-x.

Would someone kindly explain how this differs from tethering? Is it because it only works with video?

It is akin to tethering, but using LV and connecting the camera to an external monitor, rather than a PC.
You can't control the camera remotely, like you can with proper tethering though. All the control is still with the camera body.
Still, this way of doing things may be close enough to 'tethering' for many tasks.
