problem with locked programme

Hi everyone. I think that I"m locked in green mode. F stop is diasabled. I cant switch between programmes. All I get in all positions is AV mode with a disabled f.stop. Or perhaps locked in flash mode, which I never use. Some buttons must have been accidentally pressed. Help????

Did you try resetting to original settings?

I've checked all the C menu points. Nothing seems wrong. However I turn the programme dial switch, it only shows Av mode and a deactivated F stop. Is there a way to see if the green mode is activated?

The activity after which this problem appeared was changing to a zoom lense and testing with the P mode. After a while, the above happened. I've put back the old lense, but to no avail.

Perhaps remove the lens from the camera body again and check that there is nothing obstructing the electrical contacts on the lens mount point.

Even if they appear fine, just try rubbing over the contacts with a clean cloth just to be sure its not that.

what lens do you have mounted? If its a modern AF lens, have you tried cleaning the electrical contact points?

What lens were/are you using?

And new member's questions are not being a nuisance. You have to know just like we did when we started.

Thanks. Well, I was using the standard kit lens which was just fine. I changed to a Tamron AF 70 - 300 Di LD Macro 1;2. Now I've changed back and the problem remains. But I will clean the contacts as suggested above.

This is usually indicative of an all manual lens like a Takumar. Obviously not the case here but it would seem to indicate that the camera is not seeing the lens. As noted above, try cleaning the contacts. Also look carefully at each contact and make sure none of them are out of position or missing.

Thanks everyone. The reason for the problem was that the aperture ring of the zoom lens was not set to A. This caused some stress to the camera and subsequently prevented even the pentax standard lens from functioning. After I left the camera off for some hours and then remounted the zoom lens correctly, everything was working well again. I also cleaned the contacts.
