Great K-5 sensor

I took photos at our company year-end function last week with my K-5, Sigma 10-20, Pentax DA 35 Limited and FA77 Limited. The lighting inside was a mixture of fairy lights, red LED, fluorescent, normal incandescent and fire. What a nightmare for white balance! I did a few test shots to get a reasonable setting that I would be able to work with later. I let the ISO go up to 800.

When I got home I put the photos through the Pentax Utility program and adjusted exposure and white balance. I then cropped the photos (some a lot) to get rid of distractions in the background. Even after all the fiddling, I still ended up with stunning shots with great detail. Thanks Pentax for a really great sensor (and some great lenses too).

You should thank Sony. Pentax should only be thanked for getting back to using Sony sensors after their collaboration with Samsung. If the K20D and K-7 would have used a sensor like the Nikon D90, the K-5 would have just looked like the incremental improvement in Sony technology that it is.

I think we can give Pentax some credit. Keeping in mind that Pentax tweaked this sensor to not only achieve but maintain the no. 1 APS-C performance spot amidst all the other manufacturers using the very same sensor.
