My first trip with K-5 II

So not really, since I still have a full load of PEF's that my LightRoom wont open, but for now these DNG's are my real trip.

So I went to a womens soccergame in the highest division in The netherlands, where my hometeam (white and blue) won and secured there position to be in the championsleague next year with teams from The Netherlands and belgium, calles BeNe league A.

Playing out in Utrecht on a field where normal people can't make any descent pictures unless you have those fancy expensive camera's, wich offcource no-one has, since no-one will buy these images. I took K-5 II and Sigma 70-200mm EX DG OS HSM, since only then I can take advantage from the centre AF-point that is more sensitive then the others. My DA*300mm/f4 wouldn't do that, and I know that it is dead slow in focussing during these light conditions.

The camera is really good responsive and does lock focus quickly. Is it always right? No not always, but in a lot of times. Also the movement off the players does spoil in these cases. The images are taken mostly at 200mm, 1/320th (could do 1/250th, but then movement starts to creep in the images) and f3.5 (f3.2 could do also, but I like a little more sharpness). In TAv and iso all available and used from iso8000 up to iso51200, so light was spars. With these iso-settings the Dynamic Range is small and there are easily over-exposed parts in the images with the white tricot in the overly dark scenes.

For my feelings the K-5 II is smarter with it's AF then the K-5.

Usable ISO8000 is awesome, did you used OS and switch off body SR ?

Very good results under very demanding conditions. Light levels must have been very low.

Surprisingly decent output for ISO 40000, ISO 32000, ISO 25600, ISO 20000, ISO 16000, ISO 12800 !!!

EDIT: Do you have a wide shot of the stadium or the game? It would be interesting to get a feel for what the ambient lighting at the game looked like.

I use SR. The only situation I use the OS is for panning (SR oof and OS set to #2). For my working I'm more used to the SR.

No stadiumshot, but it was more of a field with just one standing for about 250 people. In the corners a lightpole and on the side of the stand one extra.

Nice photos Ron......it looks like the conditions were very challenging.

Do you notice any differences between the K5ii and your K5's? I am thinking things like focus speed/acquisition?

Well I'm going out tonight to a volleyballgame and the light there is better then this soccergame. For my ffeelings the K-5 II is more descisive, but no measurements from my hand. I will take a look on some differences over the coming two weeks.

So I didn't went out today. But I was looking at the K-5 II and there are some changes in the AF-system. Probablky also in the K-30, but new to me.

So when choosing 5 or 11 AF-points there isthis diagram that shows the points in the menu. I thought new, but my K-5 has that too (is that new and since what firmware?).

Expanded Area AF in combination with AF-C and SEL on AF-points. So this is a new one and not used for the images above.

With very low light the camera does rely more on the central AF-point then the K-5 did. So starting with the centre point would make a good start in dark light. Anyone experience with this setting?
