K5 timelapse with factory D-LI90....Wow!

This week I had to go to Conroe, Tx on business. It's about a 3 hour drive each way, so I thought I would do a time lapse video for the heck of it.
I didn't realize until I made it back home that the battery was almost full....thought there was an error because I had taken 4257 shots (6mp jpeg)! Nope.
There was still plenty of juice to unload all those shots and take some more later.
You have to give it to this camera/battery. I love my K5, and it still surprises me.

Here's the video as well...kills time i guess.

Cool! I'm guessing that you changed the camera settings so it didn't display each picture after it was taken?

wow that even looks cool.

Some off the settings would be nice to read. Lens, aperture, timing. I'm planning on doing such a thing with my K-01 soon.

Thanks guys!

I used my new little DA35 f2.4 and put it in Hyper program with the ISO stuck at 400 and WB at daylight; just let the camera do the rest of the metering.
Used the awesome built-in intervalometer to fire every 5 seconds, and took 5 different sessions of ~850-900 shots.

-and yes I turned the preview off, it can be distracting while driving; especially when the sun isn't quite up yet.

I'm betting that turning off the preview was responsible for your battery life. Neat series of shots!

Neat idea and great video. And thanks for sharing your settings.

The battery life is great - I could even double that since I use the grip.

Curious as to how you mounted the camera in the car - the video is very stable in that regard.

Also, what software did you use to compile the shots into a video? Not only do I want to try this in the car/truck, I want to do the same type of time lapse of my wife's bird feeders.

I'm not sure what software he used, but I've pulled off a time lapse (of sorts) using Picasa. Its handy mostly because its free.

Cool - I was hoping to do this with either the software I already have of something free.

I just took a look at Picasa and see the movie maker function - will have a test go with it over the weekend - thanks!

Manacho - that time lapse is fantastic! Good choice of music too. Here in Ohio, such an effort may be challenging. On my windshield, there is always stiff competition to obscure my view amongst the ice, bird poop, and dead leaves.....

The only thing I haven't figured out (mostly because I haven't tried) is movies spanning folders. The obvious workaround being just dumping all your photos in its own folder and pointing Picasa there.

I used photoshop to compile the shot into a video after batch cropping into 1920x1080. The video is mainly stable due to youtube's stabilization function(it gives the quirky panning when sitting still), but if you use SR with horizon assist, it keeps the shot pretty straight. Which is needed because I just set it on the dash 😀. The music is also from YouTube.

Have not tried this yet, but will. One tip I saw for stabilization is to use a tripod with two legs in the seat and one extended out onto the floorboard. Then buckle in the tripod like a person.

That's amazing to me that you just had the camera sitting on the dash. You must have some smooth roads with no hills or bends. If I set the camera on the dash on our roads it would be on the floor within a mile or so......

I like the tripod in the passenger seat idea. I have a GorillaPod and was thinking I could wrap the legs around the headrest, but then the camera would be too high. I'll have to experiment with this.

Superb stuff! I'm hoping to do this with starscapes (once i've mastered it a good bit more) to put my soundscapes to. Really fantastic video and nicely inspiring. Thanks for sharing!
