This evening's 2% illuminated disc

Atmospheric conditions today, not to mention the mountains west of my location, had me convinced I would see nothing before it dropped out of sight, so I rather grudgingly carried a pair of binoculars to scan the ridgeline while taking out the trash.

Stunned, I hastily grabbed my camera out of the Tundra and only managed this noisy shot.

Aged 30h : 42m.

I just made a tribute post to my now lost K5iis here: K5iis Tribute / My Experience Migrating from FF to APS-C & Back to FF - PentaxForums.com.

Avoiding duplicates from the above earlier in the day, the pictures that follow were from the first 3 days I had my hands on my first DSLR. It arrived on the evening of 23 Dec 2014 to much fanfare and I fondly remember taking a trip on my own on a terribly cold Boxing Day morning while still dark to a nearby lighthouse to catch first light (after being dissatisfied with not having much light on Christmas evening by the river) in 2014. All taken with the DA 18-55mm WR and unedited. Farewell K5iis...

I recently picked up a heavily used K-5 IIs and am still getting to know it. The LCD has a permanent black stripe down the center of dead pixels, and some of the dials are very stiff, I imagine from the camera getting dirty. The focus screen is not centered (gonna fix that...). It's rough but lovely. I can't tell by looking at it but it feels smaller in my hand than the K-3, and more comfortable as a result. My only complaint is the location of the back AF button, but I'll get used to that in time. This sensor is so wonderful and produces better colors and noise than my K-3, particularly noticeable in low light.

My first ever shots on a DSLR today, let alone a pentax DSLR! All with the 40mm 2.8 limited, the wee pancake. Coming from mirrorless, I’m a bit at sea with the OVF and such, but i did pick up my k5 iis specifically because i was finding mirrorless too ‘easy’ and i wanted to learn some skills & hone my instincts a little. One thing i will say - god, this is a comfortable camera. Looking forward to shooting a lot more

Welcome to Pentax and the K5iis. Yes the almost toy camera like compactness when paired with the 40mm is superlative.
