K-5 built-in flash

I have had my K-5 now for about 6 or 7 months and just love it. I do mostly landscapes and outdoor stuff.
Well, I thought I would play around with the built-in flash and get used to how it operates. Well, apparently it doesn't work.
It doesn't even sound like it is charging when popped up.
Has anyone else had any issues with the built-in flash?

Probably for the best. built in flashes are the worst.

I agree - but on a new camera it should at least work ... if for nothing more than to trigger off camera flash ... even though for that I use wireless ...

Did you try it in the green mode? Also, I think it doesn't work at speeds faster than 1/160 sec...

It is 1/180, you could put it in X mode just to be sure.

I tried it on every setting that camera has lol ... in any case ... when you hit the button to raise it up should you not hear it charging? Or at least get some indication that it is on?
The icon flashes indicating that flash is needed but when I pop it up - nothing. Press the shutter release - nothing ...

I don't hear anything on mine, built in flashes are usually pretty quiet, my K100D never made any noise either.

Do you have a photo taken with the flash up with the EXIF intact that we could see?

On my K-5 IIs It is Dead quiet. What lens are you using? Is it an older lens with no electronic connections?

Have you put flash to on the down direction button? Merely open the flash does not trigger it like on Canikon bodies.

good point. now that i think about it I don't think i've ever used mine. now I gotta check to see if it works, too.

Are you wearing a cap ? I'm serious!! I was on a work trip once where I had to wear a hard hat, and the flash didn't work - only after I tried again with the hard hat off did I realise that the front of the hat was protruding near the top of the camera and the flash was being prevented from raising fully, just by a few millimeteres, but enough for it to still think it was lowered. Did I feel dumb?? Yes I did.

Hi Alan,

Yes, I have had the same problem a few weeks after receiving my brand-new K5.
After a useless firmware update I was told to send it back for repair.
