Installed it and tried some HDR shots...camera works fine. I had the HDR lockup incident once before. It's working fine so far.

Question, does anyone know why they have a special version of the firmware for the "s" type of camera?

Yes. Two different downloads.

Edit: Oops, read "why" as "if".

I would guess that there could be some internal processing parameters tuned differently for the AA-less model (e.g. JPEG sharpening, color space differences due to different color response of the sensors, etc.). Also, the camera name string in the EXIF is different.

I can also confirm that the HDR bug appears to be fixed on the K-5iis with the update. I haven't tried any of the other listed features yet.

I guess so, still a weird decision IMO though. Unless the firmware is supercramped for space they could have easily included both settings in the firmware and have the camera automatically select the right one.

There is a nice LCD Display Settings screen on the menu with Brightness and Contrast adjustments and 4 colour gradient bars on the bottom (white/red/green/blue).

I have just tested the GPS save feature to SDXC cards and can confirm that it now works fine as well!

I have noticed nothing else so far. Will be trying it with my Sigma 8-16mm tonight to see if it still does not recognize fl <10mm
Update: Unfortunately that part has not changed with the new firmware - <10mm focal lengths still show as --
