Well, I meant that as a rhetorical comment, I didn't really mean to nose into your personal business.

I am fortunate to have a wife who has little personal interest in camera gear, but supports my hobby and appreciates the outcome. But I always tell her when I spend some money. Everyone's way of doing things is different. The thing you and we are doing in common is budgeting, however you want to define that.

In our case, when we started a family, she cut her hours down to part time. So the income is no longer equal. Which means the mad money is not equal. Our solution is to discuss all our non-trival expenditures. Sometimes that is after the fact, but that is okay by our rules too. So far we are still married. I wish I could say the same about my sister, who found out her husband had some hidden accounts.

I could see her divorcing him if he squirreled some of her money away from a joint account. There's a horror story about an Air Force member that had a joint account with his Korean wife stateside. One day, he discovered that she cleaned out the account($50k), left him with the Kids and departed for Korea.

When I tried explaining to my wife about my desire to get a Q10 along with my K-30 she balked as she doesn't grasp the concept of a 'backup camera'.

So now I'm (probably) getting a Sigma 10-20 instead.

Not the only one in the house who is divided. Tokina/Pentax 16-50's on the D7000 and K-5. I envy the Tokina being bought brand new off the eBay for $450 shipped compared to my Pentax of which I bought for 750 on Black Friday.

How does the Tokina compare to Pentax? AFAIK the only difference should be in the coatings. Oh, and WR?

Yeap coating and the tokina has no WR. However the Tokina is very well built, just as good as my DA*.

A three year warranty on the Tokina too I'm pretty sure. I wonder if the AF motor is the same?

After a year and a k7 and k5 to play with my wife still preferred her old system. So I went shopping and now have the k5 all to my self. Wonder if I can swing a back up body???

Look at the bright side, if you ever get divorced she won't take your camera gear.

You know why both of you don't want to switch (you to Nikon or she to Pentax)? the hidden truth is: you both think the other person's pictures suck.....

Just kidding!

That kinda happened to me but in a more amical manner, I just gave her the gear she used the most, Kx (I bought a K01 to replace it) 17-70, 55-300 and the Q. I do miss the lenses and the Q but at least I got to keep the Flash /K7, FA31, Rokinon 85 1.4 and other bits and pieces.
I do need another walkaround zoom and long lens currently just an A70-200 f4. So I'm thinking 28-75 - DA* 55-135 - and maybe a DA*300 when I'm back in making decent money mode.
She made far away the most money out of the two of us during our marriage and no kids so it was a small sum to pay to keep those camera bits along with my Active loud speakers and Roadbike worth about 5k combined

Does the K5 become "her" camera on rainy days?

If she prefers her D7000 and is happy with it, then just leave her be and be thankful that you still have the hobby of photography to share.
