K5 Firmware Update 1.14

Just updated to see if it improved AE-L issues that I (singularly) seemed to have problems with & encountered a difference between how the K10 & K5 behave!

K10
Set Mode to AV
Press the shutter release half way with 1/125S & f8 displayed
Press AE-L & 1/125S & f8 still displayed
Press shutter & image taken at 1/125S, f8

K5
Set Mode to AV
Press the shutter release half way with 1/125S & f8 displayed
Press AE-L & 1/100S & f8 displayed
Press shutter & image taken at 1/100S, f8
OK. It's only a 1/3 Stop but forgive my naivety but surely the way the K10 functions is correct

K5
Set Mode to Tav
Set shutter speed to 1/125 & aperture to f8
Press the shutter release half way with ISO 800 displayed
Press AE-L & ISO 800 STILL displayed
Press shutter & image taken @ 1/125S, f8, ISO 800

It's too soon to know whether my issues with AE-L have been resolved but if 'pushing' the shutter speed (Av Mode) down 1/3 stop locks the exposure, then I guess I'll live with this little anomaly!!

Exposure Compensation wouldn't happen to be set to minus 1/3rd of a stop would it?

It prob wouldn't matter anyway, just thought I'd ask.

Doesn't occur on my K-5 in Av mode. Is this offset (-0.3 stops) consist with other shutter speed & f-number values?

I do a lot of outdoor sports and I usually set -0.7 EVcomp if sunny or -0.3 EVcomp if overcast, so -0.3 stops would not bother me at all. (I'm a raw shooter, so adjusting rendered image brightness in PP is normal for me.) But anyway I always use TAv for sports (and indead a lot of other shooting).

Dan.

UPDATE:
I should just add that under the Custom Menu, Link AE to AF Point was set ON. Setting this to OFF 'resolves' the above Av Mode situation. The scenario I was using had a bright centre & the surrounding area was dimly lit. Focus was set to centre & it would appear that when the shutter was pressed half way, focus was locked & the exposure was taken from the SPOT position in the bright area thus changing the exposure.

However, my contention is that if you set AE-L to lock the exposure it should be at the settings when AE-L was set & should not change as press the shutter half way. After all, this is exactly what happens in Tav Mode!!

So Pentax have inconsistency in the way that the K5 handles AE-L!!

Despite repeatedly making them aware of this issue, they still choose to do nothing about it!!

Kr and latest firmware update

I have found that I have FF flashing on the screen when I fitted my Cosina 55mm f1.2 lens and shutter button will not fully depress and live view will not open either - has anyone else had this sort of problem? and is there any way of reverting to previous firmware???????????????

Go to Custom Settings and set "Using aperture ring" to "Permitted".
