Rubber Plug for Battery Grip?

Anyone know where to buy a replacement rubber protective plug that covers the contacts for the battery grip on the bottom of the K-5?

Hi Glennbp
You need to know the right name to find it with google!
It's a "Pentax K5 bottom terminal cap."

Pentax K5 & K7 Bottom Terminal Cap - Only £9.99 - SRS Microsystems

Cheers

Thanks Cal... It would have taken me hours to find the right terminology!

Glenn - You do know that there is a detent in the bottom of the K-5 to hold the plug, no?

Strike that - the detent is actually on the top of the battery grip, not the bottom of the camera. The presumption is that the only time the plug would be off is if you were using the grip.

I'm aware that this is an old thread; however, does anyone know where one can be found in the US?

What's the risk if I do not replace the plug?

The risk to not replace the plug is that the weather sealing isn't intact. It also will effect the resale value of your camera, should you choose to resell.

I called Pentax and when they agreed that the plug wasn't available for sale in the US, they shipped me one for free.

I know this thread is old, but I just bought a used K-5 IIs missing the terminal cover. I called Pentax, and they said they'd send me one if they had one. In the meantime I've been looking for a solution, should none be found.

It's called Versimold. The key would be to make a mold of the terminal recess in the camera, but it just might work. Check it out, and if anyone has used Versimold or made their own replacement, please share.

Versimold? Create and cure your own custom rubber parts.
