Just got a K5 - what lens .....

Just got a K5 today - what lens should I buy , sorry but the budget ATM is $200 .. I have some Sigma lenses ( AF ) and some older Manual focus K mount lenses ..
Two lenses in the pictures are what I have to chose from ATM ..

I think the 28-80 is probably the better overall lens though the 18-50 seems to take a more True Image ...

Tamron 18-200 perhaps ?

Much of it depends what you like to shoot. What do you want to do that your current lenses don't.

You could get some manual primes but they would likely be in the same focal length range of what you have. Perhaps a 135 or 200?

I would say Tamron 28-300 or Sigma 28-300 if you want a superzoom, or the Tamron 70-300 if you want something longer that is in your budget.

You should try to match the exposures of the lenses before comparing them, really.

There is no way we can judge from those pictures supplied.

I would (and did) stick with the Pentax brand or at least be very choosy about which model of Sigma or Tamron to choose. Sigma and Tammy are so variable. I inherited three Sigma lenses that are complete rubbish, which was enough to put me off the brand for life, no matter how good their EX line supposedly is.

(Here in AU it's very common to see quality bodies paired with the shittiest imaginable sigma zooms because importer and/or retailer margins are so ridiculous that retailers can't move bodies with kit lenses at the prices they want or need to charge. I suspect from the Hills Hoist, evaporative cooler and plants in flower and fruit that you're in Oz also. )

You would have been best placed to get the K5 bundled with the DA 18-55mm WR kit lens but failing that you could get it the same lens online for well under $200.

Sorry Guys

Lenses were used in Auto everything .. For everyday shooting I like full Auto .. Turn it on , point and shoot !

I also have some old 35mm Lenses : 500mm F8 Mirror , 300mm Non Zoom ( forget the details ) , a small manual zoom with macro , and a Richo 50mm F1.7

I use these for the more controlled shots ...

Yeah , Been looking at lenses , I want a walk and talk lens ( 18-200 or 28-250 ) , something that can take a decent picture for online use , to cover as much ground as possible ..

Leaning towards the Tamron 18-200 or 28-200 or 28-250 sort of thing to cover as much ground as possible .

Might see about a Primary ( 28mm ) manual lens , around F1.4 or F1.7 , or a Macro capable lens to round out things ..

The old 35mm lenses are 1.6x or something in a digital ... ( been out of the game since 35mm Died )

If you're looking for a standard zoom, I would recommend the Sigma 18-50 F2.8-4.5. It usually retails between $150-$200.
Plus the focus is snappy and quiet thanks to HSM. It pairs well with the K5.

There is a Tamron 28-300 for sale at 159 dollars here. https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/photographic-equipment-sale/216280-sale-l...fa-tamron.html

I used to have it and it's not bad for a walk around lens, but since then I moved on to other lenses.
