K-5 Main Circuit Board Died

The main circuit board on my K-5 died. It's in Chancellor now for the next month. Has anyone else had this happen.

Sorry to hear that Alan. I realise how frustrating it can be as I lost the use of a 10 day old K-5 because of main board failure. The main board failure was a direct result of a SD card damage caused by the incorrect manufacture/sizing of the SD card slot.
Took 8 months for the repair to be eventually completed.
And that how I came to end up owning two K-5 cameras.
(Lets hope these silly manufacturing defects are fixed by PRIC for future models)

My k20d suffered the same fate a few weeks ago. I was told it needed a new circuit board after it had deleted all my pics on a Fiji holiday.
I was told it would cost $450 to repair.....so now I am the very happy owner of a k5iis.....so all is well.

@Alan: I have same experience like you, the main board of my K-5 died last year and I have to wait for 5 months for the repair and it cost me around $400 but now it is working fine. It’s good to get your Pentax repaired rather than buying the new one because they have the good customer service.

When I was considering second hand K5 purchase in shop - main board got hickups right in my hands during test shots - display was showing strange colors and shapes. They send it for repair and in 5 weeks it was back with main board replaced (it was over Christmas and New Year time). Tough I never trusted that camera again, so I bought new one. Good luck. (I am in Austria.)

"Mirror flop" was a widespread problem for early K-5's caused by faulty mainboards.

I started getting mirror flops after the camera was almost 2 years old and only after everyone started posting about it :-(

My K-5 gave up after one long mirror up with that black frame, then a few more normal shots, then showed an empty batter symbol. Removing and replacing the battery returned operation to normal until I pressed the shutter - nothing, and low battery symbol again.

CRIS said it is the mirror box motor - $258. Wainting on parts...
