Looking to shoot a wedding(s) and already have a Tamron 28-200mm f4-22 lens (plus one other kit lens) but want a f2.8 prime auto telephoto lens that won't break my bank but will give me great results... 3D beautiful pictures... Any ideas as just bought a K5ii...?

How about an SMC Pentax-FA * 85mm f1.4 lens - $1,000.
or SMC Pentax-FA* 80-200mm f2.8 - $1,500.
or SMC Pentax-DA * 50-135mm f2.8 - $900.

If you want auto focus, these are some good choices for a wedding lens.

If you can do with manual focus you could get the SMC Pentax-A 100mm f2.8 or 135mm f2.8 - Probably $100-$250.

Best budget AF f/2.8 tele zoom for Pentax is the Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 you can pick them up for just over $600

I would say that the DA*50-135mm is a good choice.

Already the two big choices have been suggested, but for size considerations an FA 77 and FA 135 are good prime options.

Ronhendriks1966 is right. The 50-135 is as good as a prime ! Pershaps an even more lightfull lens a DA* 55mm F1.4 for interior or A 50mm F1.7...

I have a choice of the f2.8 50-135mm DA Pentax lens or the f3.5 18-25mm DA lens. What would one go for ideally for weddings... Limited budget unfortunately... Shouldn't I go as wide angled as possible?

Well depends on the venue really. if you are shooting an outdoor wedding under blazing sun, the 18-250 will suffice, otherwise, get 2 fast prime lens, one wide the other long(Sigma 30 f1.4, Sigma 85 f1.4 maybe) . Indoors you would really benefit from a fast lens. If you prefer zooms, Tamron 17-50 f2.8 & Tamron 70-200 f2.8 combined should set you back a little under $1000. I have both and I would swear by them for weddings(as a guest, I am only an amateur). the Pentax DA*50-135 I've heard many good things about it too, but I have never owned one.

I would think that the DA*50-135 is much more useful indoors for a wedding than most any other zoom lens, with the exception being the Sigma 70-200.

The DA 18-250 is nowhere near the same quality.

The only thing the 50-135 can't do is wide angled group shots or venue shots. You may as well use a kit 18-55 lens for such wide angle work (shooting only at f/8-11 to maintain quality in this budget lens). For everything else, you can bet the 50-135 will be your most used lens at a wedding.

I would definitely go with the 50-135. You should also look for a fast prime, like the 50 1.4 for times when you really need low light performance.

Excuse my ignorance but would the 50mm prime lens, f1.4 you have suggested only be used in manual mode. I have a K5II where I use auto focusing...

I believe all the current Pentax lenses are auto focus. The FAs are nice primes.
