Possible to install older version of firmware?

Hi all-
  • Is it possible to replace a Pentax camera's firmware version with an older one, if a newer one is giving unexpected trouble (eg, for certain operations).
  • If possible, is there a firmware archive available? I can only find the latest version on the Pentax site.
I've had a k-5 iis (with the f1.4 fixed, and the 18mm-55m zoom) for about a month, and it still has firmware 1.00 on it. Apart from general camera maintenance, I'd like to see if an upgrade fixes some (real or perceived, not sure yet) focus issues.

Thanks in advance.

Generally speaking the answer is no, you cannot downgrade your firmware. I don't think there are any known issues with the K-5 II apart from the bounce flash thing, which is supposedly being worked on.

Nor is there an official public firmware archive. We do not store firmware files on our site, but many members do keep old FW versions. However, AFAIK Pentax does not delete old downloads. Here is the most recent K-5 IIs firmware:

Change the 3 to a 2 or a 1 and you can DL an older version of the zip.

Thank you Adam for this info. I tried to download all three versions, but v102 (K5_2S102.zip) is not available anymore.

From a software point of view, upgrades are more complicated than you might think initially. It is possible that a new version also corrects problems introduced by a previous version. I also assume that the last version is a cumulative update otherwise you cannot upgrade from v101 to v103 directly.
