Keep in mind there are other differences as well. Like, the K-30 has focus peaking and more video options, the K-5IIs has more higer-tier features and records more data per photo. You can look at the camera comparison tool on this forum or search for one of the many other threads on this topic. If you've been using the K-r for a long time, you probably know the basics well enough to get a "flagship" camera like the K-5. But either of these cameras should offer some advantages over the K-r, like newer technology, the better sensor and WR. There is also quite a bit of a difference in their price. If you want an overall improvement in technology, get the K-30. If you want the very best that Pentax is offering right now, get the K-5IIs. Doubt you will be disappointed by either of these Good luck!

I just wanted to jump in and say I love this forum! I have the exact same question as OP: K-r to K-30 or K-5-iis? I really love K-30 features like focus peaking and video modes. But i am also eager to have sharp, wedding photographer type creamy pictures.

Too bad the top end lacks features that the cheaper models have! I'm leaning towards K-30 with 18-135 WR. K-30 seems so well-loved and I don't own any great lenses yet.

If you are into wedding photography and going to shoot ones, I think full frame or at least very wide aperture lens are must for separating married from rest of the world. FF + 50mm/1.4 + 35/1.4 (or even 24mm/1.4) are hard or maybe impossible to substite with anything in crop-sensor. DA* 55/1.4 is quite nice but it is short tele on crop-sensor. Sigma 30mm/1.4 is one option and also expensive FA 31mm limited F1.9.
But have to say, you can't get dreamy pictures with 18-135mm with either K-30 or K-5IIs. 30mm/1.4 + 85mm/1.4 and you will get nice portraits

The best way to get dreamy pictures with the 18-135 is to step back and zoom in which is not always easy for wedding photog...
